Enchanted Lagoon Nature & Culture Jeep Safari
“Take a dive in the mineral spring mountain lagoon”
The ultimate off-road adventure for lovers of nature and EXTREME THRILLS.
We start with a stop at one of our oldest monasteries on the Island nestled within the heart of Mosfiloti, a picturesque village in Larnaca’s district. The monastery is surrounded by a green-covered valley offering a serene setting. Similar to Stavrovouni Monastery, Agia Thekla is said to have been founded by Saint Helen during the 4th century. According to the story, Saint Helen prayed to God at exactly where the monastery is situated today. She prayed to God to help her and her escorts because they were really thirsty sue to their travels. After the praying, Holy water overflowed the earth. She then started building the monastery. Till this day, holy water flows through the same spring. The holy water is believed to cure diseases.
We then visit one of the most stunning copper mines (red lake) in the area where you can walk around and study the rock formations and collect precious stones. Even though the lake is a specimen of the destruction of nature from mankind of years of mining the minerals, a magnificent image has been created. The reflection of the sun on the lake in combination with the remainder of the mines in the water create red and yellow colours creating an impressive location for visitors.
We are then ready for a coffee stop at a traditional Kafenio (local coffee shop) in a tiny village amongst the local people with a couple of pleasant surprises are guaranteed for all guests. Then the off-road adventure continues with a climb up the mountains for breath-taking views.
We then continue to the very private and enchanted Lagoon for a tranquil swim (The lagoons secret location guaranteed by the Trackers team; is almost impossible to reach without our jeeps)
The tour continues with a stop at a museum village, almost forgotten by time, where we really do take a step back into centuries gone by. (One of the cottages was believed to have been lived in by Richard the Lion Heart; today a museum along with the entire village).
Lunch is optional and can be enjoyed in the heart of this village in a typical Cypriot family-owned Taverna.
We continue our journey up the mountain peaks, stopping for photographs along the way our trip ends in the charming village of Lefkara, also known as Leonardo da Vinci village in 1948. Little wonder that Lefkara is often hailed as every traveller’s dream, a maze of cobbled streets dotted with shops filled with intricate silver, lace and embroidery, elderly craftsmen proudly beckon you into their workshops with brilliant silverware glistening round every nook and cranny, and glorious stone-built buildings have intricate tales to tell about years gone by. The locals are awfully proud of the village’s long lace-making traditions and the so-called ‘Lefkaritiko’ lace, the gorgeous embroidery is even included on UNESCO’s representative list of Intangible Culture Heritage.
Program may alter slightly during the winter months between November till March.
